Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the need for close collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda across various sectors. Speaking at the third meeting of the National Council on Privatization (NCP) held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Vice President highlighted the importance of aligning efforts to achieve the administration’s goals.

The meeting, chaired by Shettima, saw the ratification of the 2021 and 2022 financial audit reports of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). The Council also approved the BPE’s progress in implementing its 2024 work plan, aimed at enhancing the agency’s operations. Notably, the NCP instructed the BPE to engage stakeholders to resolve ongoing disputes in the sale of Sapele II (Ogorode Generation Company Ltd) and coal blocks owned by the Nigerian Coal Corporation.

Vice President Shettima commended the BPE’s new management for its renewed focus and successful completion of key projects, including the concession of the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant. He also urged the agency to work closely with the Ministry of Justice and NCP committees to expedite the completion of pending transactions.
During the meeting, the Director General of the BPE, Mr. Ayodeji Gbeleyi, reported that the bureau had generated N93.47 billion in revenue from three transactions in the first two quarters of 2024, representing 35.9% of its projected earnings. He outlined several improvements in the agency’s operations, including the enhancement of concession and post-transaction management.
Present at the meeting were several key government officials, including Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and representatives from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
