Vice President Shettima Calls for Stronger EU-Nigeria Relations

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged the strengthening of ties between Nigeria and the European Union (EU) to tackle malnutrition and other humanitarian issues. During a visit by the EU delegation led by outgoing Ambassador Samuela Isopi at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima highlighted Nigeria’s appreciation for the EU’s support and emphasized the need for continued collaboration.

Shettima praised Ambassador Isopi for her contributions to improving EU-Nigeria relations, particularly in humanitarian efforts in Nigeria’s North East and North West regions. He noted Nigeria’s strategic importance as the continent’s most populous nation and projected to become the third most populous globally by 2050.

Ambassador Isopi, reflecting on her three-year tenure, expressed pride in the achievements and collaborations with Nigeria, emphasizing ongoing support for peace, security, and economic development. She highlighted the EU’s commitment to education, health, and agricultural initiatives, and expressed confidence in the future of EU-Nigeria relations.

Deputy head of the delegation Zissimos Vergos and Political Adviser Osaro Odewingie also attended the meeting.
