VP Shettima: Tinubu Administration Driving Power Sector Reform

Vice President Kashim Shettima has highlighted the Tinubu administration’s determination to reform Nigeria’s power sector, describing energy security as central to national progress. He commissioned the new head office of the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO) in Asokoro District, calling it a symbol of modernisation, efficiency, and forward-thinking leadership. VP Shettima stressed NELMCO’s role in addressing legacy challenges and restoring confidence in the electricity supply industry.

He noted that the administration’s approach focuses on data-driven decisions, technology in asset management, and strong partnerships with local and international stakeholders. VP Shettima praised NELMCO staff for their dedication and urged private sector and international investors to support the sector, emphasizing that governance, transparency, and accountability are key to sustainable reform.

Other speakers highlighted complementary initiatives. Minister of Finance Wale Edun said a stable power sector will boost SMEs and support economic growth, while Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu explained that the new NELMCO headquarters strengthens liquidity management and legacy debt resolution. NELMCO MD Mojoyinoluwa Dekalu-Thomas added that the agency has generated over ₦30 billion in revenue for the Federal Government.
