W&A Consular World®️, the leading UK-based global diplomatic and consular services company specialising in sourcing for global diplomatic summits and protective services has officially introduced a groundbreaking document called the “Standard for Consular Accessibility and Inclusion 2024” (Inclusion of Consular Accessibility Access™️). Scheduled for public release in August 2024, this comprehensive framework document which proposes 9 major standards and 27 sub-standards is set to redefine accessibility and inclusion standards within the global consular services industry and global diplomatic summits. Its implementation is expected to set a new global precedent, making consular services far more accessible and inclusive for individuals with disabilities. Previews of this historic document have been offered to the United Nations, The Commonwealth as well as major international news outlets including The Guardian, Financial Times and TIME.
The vision as established in this framework document is to address the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities at various diplomatic events, including international and intergovernmental summits like the UNFCCC, G20 and future COP meetings. The standards cover a wide array of accessibility concerns—from infrastructure modifications like wheelchair-accessible facilities to the integration of advanced communication tools such as sign language interpretation and digital accessibility in line with the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
The document also introduces the “Consular Accessibility and Inclusion Logo™️”, a visual symbol that encapsulates the commitment to accessibility across consular services. This logo, designed to be universally recognisable, will aid in identifying entities that comply with the established accessibility standards. Additionally, the standards document is accessible in multiple formats, including a version in Braille, ensuring that it can be utilised by stakeholders with visual impairments. This inclusion underscores the commitment of W&A Consular World®️ to comprehensive accessibility that encompasses not only physical access but also the availability of information in formats suitable for all.
The development of these standards is spearheaded by William Fison, CEO & Founder of W&A Consular World®️, Asish Singh, an international public policy scholar and PMI-Certified Associate in Project Management from India and Soovan Sharma Dookhoo, a respected Global Disability Peer Consultant and Chair of the Commonwealth Disabled Peoples’ Forum from Mauritius. Their combined expertise and dedication have been instrumental in crafting this global precedent that not only proposes standards but also encourages their adoption across major global summits, diplomatic events and business conferences.
This framework by W&A Consular World®️ marks a historic precedent towards creating a more inclusive and accessible environment in all aspects of global diplomatic engagement, ensuring that everyone, regardless of disability, can participate fully and effectively in consular activities.
