WAEC Authenticates Tunji‑Ojo’s Secondary School Certificate Amid Renewed Petitions

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has authenticated the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result of Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, Minister of Interior. The attestation confirms that Tunji‑Ojo attended Staff Secondary School at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and sat the examination in June 1999. The document bears his full name, date of birth, original certificate number, embossed photograph and official WAEC authentication markings.

The authentication comes amid renewed petitions from the Centre for Leadership Legacy International (Centre LLI), a civil society organisation that in December 2025 urged President Bola Tinubu to order a probe into alleged discrepancies in the minister’s academic records, particularly his WAEC certificate. Questions have also circulated over Tunji‑Ojo’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, though his associates have dismissed the claims as politically motivated.

Tunji‑Ojo, appointed Minister of Interior in 2023, oversees agencies responsible for internal security, migration, correctional services and border management. Despite the authentication by WAEC, public scrutiny and social media commentary around his academic credentials have persisted as part of ongoing political debate.
