The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, today received a high-level delegation from Orteva, in partnership with the Delta State Government and Eighth Versa, for strategic talks on the $100 million Orteva Carbon Project—a groundbreaking initiative aimed at unlocking climate finance, generating carbon credits, and accelerating Nigeria’s transition toward a sustainable green economy.

Commending the effort, Mr. Edun described the project as “a timely intervention fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of green growth and sustainable economic transformation.” He emphasized that initiatives of this scale are vital to the Energy Transition Plan, providing new revenue streams beyond oil, attracting foreign exchange, and creating green jobs. With components such as mangrove conservation and biochar production, the project could generate between $350 million and $2.8 billion in carbon credit revenue—solidifying Nigeria’s position as a continental leader in carbon trading.

Reiterating the Federal Government’s support, Mr. Edun noted that the Ministry of Finance is committed to establishing a transparent and well-governed carbon market framework, backed by sound fiscal policies and credit enhancements to attract both domestic and international investors. The Orteva Carbon Project, he said, embodies Nigeria’s new economic frontier—“where sustainability and profitability converge to power inclusive growth.”
