In a pioneering move to promote financial literacy among Nigerian youth, Wema Bank has launched the ALAT Xplore App, a specialized banking app for teenagers. This app, which is the first licensed Nigerian banking app designed specifically for teens, was unveiled at an event in Lagos.

Targeting teens aged 13 to 17, the ALAT Xplore App includes a variety of features aimed at making financial management accessible and engaging. According to Wema Bank, the app enables teens to set and work toward savings goals, track their progress, and earn interest on their savings. Teens can also use the app to purchase airtime and data, and personalize the app’s appearance to reflect their individual styles.

The app also offers a debit card option, with three unique designs for teens to choose from, encouraging financial responsibility and independence under parental guidance.

The ALAT Xplore App includes an integrated parental-control feature, which connects it to the main ALAT App used by parents. This feature allows parents to open, fund, and monitor their teen’s ALAT Xplore Account, while still enabling teens to independently download and use the app. Parental approval is required for teens to complete their account setup and manage their finances.

Wema Bank’s Managing Director and CEO, Moruf Oseni, underscored the importance of early financial education, emphasizing that the teenage years are a critical period for developing lasting financial habits. “Teenagers are at a unique stage where they are shaping their identities. This app provides the tools for them to build sound financial practices,” Oseni explained, adding that the app’s goal is to prepare teens for a financially responsible future.

Through the ALAT Xplore App, Wema Bank seeks to empower a new generation to manage and grow their finances effectively from a young age.
