The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said it is unrealistic to expect any government to solve all the nation’s problems, even if it were in power for two decades.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja, Wike stressed that while the government may not address every challenge, it is making efforts to tackle issues that will significantly improve the lives of citizens.
“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved even if this government stays twenty years; no government can solve all problems. But government is solving problems that at least will help to improve the lives of people,” he said.
The FCT Minister urged Nigerians to acknowledge the achievements of the present administration, regardless of personal political preferences.
“You must appreciate when a government has done well. You don’t need to like the person in charge,” Wike stated.
Addressing concerns about sectoral neglect, Wike said no sector under his watch was being ignored.
“It is not possible for you to turnaround all the sectors. But that does not mean any sector should be neglected and we are not neglecting,” he said.
On funding, Wike disclosed that the FCT only receives one per cent of the Federal Government’s allocation, a factor that limits the pace of development in the territory.
“What comes to the FCT is one per cent of the allocation of Federal Government,” he revealed.
The minister also dismissed speculations about his political plans for 2027 following his recent meeting with Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure.
“Why will I want to tell you what I’m planning against 2027; wait till the time comes. I’m not here to help anybody who is my opponent,” he said.
On internal party matters, Wike maintained that the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was “over for now,” without giving further details
