The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved N100 billion, subject to final ratification by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the rehabilitation of training institutions for police and other security agencies across Nigeria. With many facilities in urgent need of repair, NEC also approved N2.6 billion for consultancy services to support the project, which follows the President’s earlier plan to overhaul security training infrastructure.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chairman of NEC, stressed that economic reforms must produce visible improvements for Nigerians. He urged governors and all tiers of government to focus on execution and ensure that policies translate into tangible changes in communities, schools, markets, clinics, and farms nationwide.
NEC also reviewed progress on national priorities, including polio eradication, which has seen a 39 percent reduction in circulating poliovirus type 2 cases, and domestic gas supply, with ₦185 billion in validated debts set to be settled to boost production. The question now is whether these initiatives will deliver the expected results and strengthen security and social development across the country.
