It was an evening of worship, nostalgia, and heartfelt gratitude as gospel singer Adeyinka Alaseyori hosted a tribute concert, Celebrating the Legends with Adeyinka Alaseyori, on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Whitestone Event Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.
The event gathered some of the most revered names in Nigerian gospel music, including Chief Ebenezer Obey, Joseph Adelakun (Ayewa), Timi Osukoya (Telemi), Deborah Fasoyin of Odun Lo Sopin fame, Dupe Olulana, Funmi Aragbaiye, and Bola Are, among others.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the night, Alaseyori said:
“The Lord gave me this vision while we were praising Him in one of our live sessions. When God asks me to do something, I give it my all. So, when He said, ‘Celebrate these ones who have worked for me,’ I committed to it wholeheartedly.”
The tribute featured renditions of timeless gospel classics that stirred memories for the audience and highlighted the lasting influence of the genre’s pioneers. The evening’s hosts, comedians Asiri and MC Ajele, kept the crowd engaged with humor and lighthearted interludes.
One of the most poignant moments came when the gospel icons collectively prayed for Alaseyori, offering blessings in appreciation of her gesture. They were later presented with awards and gifts in recognition of their decades-long contributions to gospel music and Christian ministry.
Beyond celebrating the achievements of Nigeria’s gospel greats, the gathering also drew industry stakeholders, creating an atmosphere of unity, worship, and reverence for the trailblazers who shaped the nation’s gospel music scene.
