A new YouGov poll has revealed uncertainty among Conservative voters regarding Kemi Badenoch’s suitability as prime minister, raising questions about her leadership prospects as she nears 100 days as party leader.

The survey found that while 48% of 2024 Conservative voters see Badenoch as a potential prime minister, only 26% believe she would perform well in the role. Among the general electorate, confidence is even lower, with just 14% thinking she has what it takes to lead the country.

Badenoch, known for her firm stance on immigration, faces significant skepticism from opposition voters. The poll indicates that 39% of respondents from Labour, Liberal Democrat, and Reform UK supporters view her as untrustworthy, while only 19% consider her trustworthy. Additionally, 39% described her as unlikeable, compared to 24% who view her favorably.

Despite these challenges, Badenoch retains support within her own party. The survey shows that 56% of Conservative voters approve of her leadership, while 17% rate her performance negatively.

The poll results come at a turbulent time for the Conservative Party, with another survey placing it in third place behind Labour and Reform UK in voter preference.

Born in the UK to Nigerian parents, Badenoch has been a vocal advocate for stricter immigration policies. She recently proposed that immigrants must reside in the UK for at least 15 years before becoming eligible for a British passport.

“Britain is our home, it’s not a hotel,” Badenoch declared. “It’s time to tell the truth on immigration and propose real plans. I want to reduce immigration and make living here actually mean something. I’m announcing that the Conservative Party is going to do things differently.”

As Badenoch approaches a key milestone in her leadership, the poll highlights the political challenges she faces in securing broader public confidence.
