Zelensky Rejects Ceasefire Calls as “Dangerous” and “Irresponsible” Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday denounced recent calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine as “dangerous” and “irresponsible,” arguing that a truce would not guarantee Ukraine’s security. Speaking at a European summit in Budapest, Zelensky emphasized the need for a clear plan rather than a temporary pause in fighting.

“There is also very dangerous rhetoric… (which) concerns the ceasefire,” Zelensky told reporters. He cautioned that such calls, without a comprehensive strategy, were “irresponsible.”

Zelensky’s remarks came after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire, urging both sides to halt hostilities to create space for dialogue. Orban, who has maintained one of the warmest relationships with the Kremlin among EU leaders, suggested that a ceasefire could open a path toward negotiations. “But stop killing each other now — that’s my recommendation,” he added.

Zelensky’s strong rejection highlights deep divisions within Europe over the approach to the conflict, with some leaders calling for continued support for Ukraine’s resistance, while others, like Orban, advocate for immediate de-escalation to encourage peace talks.
