The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the Contactless Passport Renewal System across Europe, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to modernize service delivery for Nigerians in the diaspora. The announcement was made by the Honourable Minister of Interior, following the successful implementation of the system in Canada.
The new system enables eligible Nigerians to renew their passports entirely online, eliminating the need for physical visits to embassies or consulates. This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which prioritizes digital transformation and efficient service delivery.
According to the Minister, the system is designed to enhance:
• Efficiency: By significantly reducing processing times and eliminating unnecessary travel.
• Accessibility: Ensuring that Nigerians abroad can access government services seamlessly.
• Modernization: Leveraging technology to support Nigeria’s broader economic and digital transformation goals.
“The Nigerian diaspora plays a crucial role in national development, and it is our responsibility to provide services that are not only accessible but also meet global standards of professionalism and efficiency,” the Minister stated.
The government has assured Nigerians that while prioritizing convenience, security measures will remain uncompromised. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance e-governance and ensure that all citizens, regardless of location, can access essential services with ease.
This rollout in Europe is expected to be the first of many expansions, as the government continues to implement digital reforms to improve public service delivery.
