The Nigerian Air Force has reported that airstrikes conducted by its fighter jets have resulted in the death or severe injury of five terrorist commanders and 35 fighters in Borno State.

The airstrikes targeted terrorists in the Arina area of the Southern Tumbuns region on August 18. According to a statement from Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the NAF spokesperson, the commanders affected include Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki.

Gabkwet explained, “To further weaken the remaining terrorist forces in the Northeast and protect both civilians and our troops, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai executed a successful air interdiction mission on August 16, 2024, in Arina, Southern Tumbuns, Borno State.”

He added, “Intelligence indicated that five key terrorist leaders were either killed or critically injured during the strikes. These commanders, believed to be present during the operation, included Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki, along with over 35 other fighters.”

Gabkwet noted that prior to the mission, intelligence revealed the terrorists’ movement into the area from nearby locations. Additional Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions on August 12 and 15 identified numerous terrorists and their hidden structures.

As a result, coordinated airstrikes were carried out, successfully engaging the targets and neutralizing several terrorists while destroying their facilities. The Battle Damage Assessment showed the obliteration of equipment, vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary.

Gabkwet concluded, “This operation has significantly diminished the operational capability of the remaining terrorists in the region. The Nigerian Air Force remains dedicated to supporting the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies in ensuring the safety and security of the region.”
