HM Wale Edun Welcomes WFP Delegation, Focuses on Food Security and Agricultural Productivity

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, welcomed a delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP) at the Finance Headquarters today. The delegation was led by the newly appointed Regional Director, Mr. Chris Nikoi. This visit marked a significant step in ongoing efforts to strengthen food security and boost agricultural productivity across Nigeria.

The Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, was also present at the meeting. Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration between the Nigerian government and the WFP, focusing on initiatives that would directly benefit Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

The WFP delegation emphasized the numerous opportunities for partnership and reiterated their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s agricultural development. They proposed service delivery programs targeting the provision of essential agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and seeds. These programs aim to increase agricultural output and ensure food security for the nation.

In his remarks, Minister Edun praised the WFP for their proactive engagement and highlighted the importance of their interventions in supporting President Tinubu’s reform agenda. He noted that food security and agricultural production are critical components of national development. Minister Edun assured the WFP delegation of the Federal Ministry of Finance’s support in implementing the proposed initiatives, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing food security and agricultural productivity in Nigeria.
