Fire Ravages Lagos Government Staff Quarters

Fire outbreak have damaged part of a three-story building at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off Wempco Road in Ogba.

Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA received emergency calls through the 767 and 112 toll-free lines at approximately 2:39 am. The agency quickly deployed its response team from the Alausa command center.

The response team found that the fire had engulfed one of the two-bedroom units in Flat 5 of Block 21, a building with 16 two-bedroom flats across two wings and three stories. The fire, which began in the children’s room, was traced to a power surge.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was contained. There were no injuries or fatalities, but the children’s bedroom was destroyed, leading to significant property damage worth millions of naira.

Oke-Osanyintolu also mentioned that the occupants were provided with information on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
