Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has announced the death of his son, a tragedy that has drawn an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The Yoruba film star shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Saturday, posting a photo of the boy while expressing his faith in God’s will.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ileyhi rajiun Ya Allah. You are the knower of all things. Rest on dear son. Champ,” he wrote.
The 53-year-old actor did not disclose the cause of death, but the announcement has left his followers in shock. Social media platforms have since been flooded with condolence messages, as colleagues and admirers mourn with the Nollywood veteran.
The news of Chatta’s loss comes just days after fellow Yoruba actress Peju Ogunmola announced the passing of her only child, Ayomikun, at the age of 24 — compounding what has been a difficult period for the Yoruba film industry.
Chatta, who began his acting career at 15, rose to prominence with his role in the 2012 film Aiyekooto. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s most versatile actors, with credits in productions such as Atini O’go, Mafi Wonmi, Olo, Mafi Sere, Orere Laye, and Ebere Adigun.
This is not the first personal tragedy the actor has shared publicly. In June, Chatta revealed he had lost his first child — a daughter — due to his inability to afford hospital bills at the time. He recalled that she was buried in a wooden Coca-Cola crate because he could not pay for a proper casket, a painful memory that continues to resonate with many Nigerians.
The actor’s latest bereavement underscores the fragility of life even for public figures, and has once again sparked conversations about grief, resilience, and the personal struggles behind Nollywood’s glamour.
