President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured that Nigeria is fully prepared to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which would be the first-ever edition to take place on African soil. The President, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, gave the assurance on Thursday while receiving the Commonwealth Sport Bid Evaluation Committee at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President Tinubu said the Games present an opportunity not only to showcase Nigeria’s capacity to host a world-class sporting event but also to leave a lasting legacy for youth empowerment, sports development, and national unity. He noted that his administration has introduced reforms, including the replacement of the Ministry of Sports with the National Sports Commission, to drive efficiency and strengthen the sector.
The visiting delegation, led by Darren Hall, Director of Games and Assurance, commended Nigeria’s hospitality and enthusiasm. Nigeria and India are the two official bidders for the 2030 Games, with Abuja and Ahmedabad as their proposed host cities. The Commonwealth Games General Assembly will decide the host city in November 2025.
