VP Shettima to Lead Nigeria’s Delegation to 80th UN General Assembly in New York

Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The high-level gathering of world leaders will take place from September 22 to 28, 2025, with the commemoration of the UN’s 80th anniversary billed for Monday, September 22 at the UN headquarters.

During the assembly, Shettima is expected to participate in the general debates and deliver Nigeria’s national statement on behalf of President Tinubu on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. New York time. He will also attend a special climate summit for Heads of State and Government hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, where Nigeria is set to announce its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

The Vice President’s engagements will further include attending a roundtable on Adequate and Affordable Housing hosted by the President of Kenya, alongside other bilateral meetings with global leaders. After the UNGA, Shettima will proceed to Frankfurt, Germany, for talks with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
