The Jigawa State Government has empowered 400 young people with modern skills in date-palm farming as part of its drive to expand agricultural opportunities and create jobs.

The beneficiaries received training on nursery management, irrigation techniques, harvesting, and processing of date palms. In addition, the government provided them with seedlings and starter packs to help establish their own farms.

Speaking during the launch, officials noted that the initiative is part of the state’s broader green economic programme aimed at boosting food security, combating desertification, and reducing unemployment.

The government also reaffirmed its partnership with local and international agricultural firms to introduce improved date-palm varieties and modern farming methods.

By equipping youths with practical skills and support, Jigawa hopes to turn date-palm farming into a major source of livelihood, revenue, and environmental sustainability.
