The Nigerian Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the expansion of the Abuja-Keffi Expressway by December 2026. The project, which commenced in December 2023, is part of a broader initiative to enhance transportation infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion along the corridor.
The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, during a recent inspection, emphasized that the completion timeline is crucial and must be adhered to. He highlighted that while 41 kilometers of the 43.6-kilometer road have been completed from the Keffi-bound section, the Abuja-bound stretch remains a challenge due to flooding and heavy traffic. To address this, the government has directed contractors to undertake night construction to minimize disruptions and expedite progress.
The project is being executed by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Nigeria Limited, with an investment of ₦73.9 billion. Once completed, it is expected to significantly alleviate transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities in the region.
The Federal Government has assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the timely completion of the project, emphasizing its importance to the nation’s infrastructure development goals.
