The North East Arid Zone Development Programme (NEAZDP), in collaboration with the Yobe State Government and nine participating Local Government Areas, has launched a comprehensive malaria prevention campaign aimed at reducing mosquito infestation and curbing malaria cases across the state.
The official flag-off ceremony, led by the Programme Manager, Dr. Mulima Idi Mato, took place in Gashua, where the exercise began with the fumigation of drainages, water receptacles, hospitals, and community centers. The initiative seeks to lower the mosquito population and significantly reduce the prevalence of malaria in the affected communities.
According to the organisers, the campaign will be carried out in all nine participating LGAs, including Bursari, Geidam, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Machina, Nguru, Yunusari, and Yusufari, in addition to Bade where the programme was inaugurated.
The event was attended by the Executive Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, represented by the Vice Chairman, the Council Secretary, staff of the Environmental Health Office, and NEAZDP personnel. Also present were community leaders, civil-based organisations, youth groups, and other stakeholders. The active participation of the Bade Community Coalition during the exercise was particularly commended, as the programme reaffirmed NEAZDP’s commitment to improving rural health and environmental sanitation across Yobe State.
