The Federal Government has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to shelve its planned strike and return to dialogue, describing it as the best approach to resolving outstanding issues in the education sector.

According to the Ministry of Education, the government has made a comprehensive offer addressing ASUU’s key concerns, including staff welfare, working conditions, and institutional governance. It added that a new teaching allowance has been approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to better reward academic work in public universities.

The government maintained that most of ASUU’s demands have been met, except those under the authority of university governing councils, which are currently being handled.

It warned, however, that if the union goes ahead with the strike, the No Work, No Pay rule would be applied, as provided by Nigerian labour law.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to continuous engagement with ASUU and other stakeholders, stressing that the future of students and the stability of universities must come first.
