Human rights activist and #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, has been re-arrested by the Nigerian Police shortly after his appearance at the Kuje Magistrate Court on Friday. Sowore, along with Prince Emmanuel Kanu — brother of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu — and ten others, had earlier been granted bail after fulfilling all conditions set by the court. Each defendant was released on ₦500,000 bail, with two sureties residing within the Federal Capital Territory and providing valid identification and three years of tax clearance.

However, despite meeting these conditions, Sowore was reportedly singled out and taken into custody again by police officers immediately after the court session. Witnesses said he was whisked away to Kuje Prison under tight security, while the other defendants were allowed to leave freely. The circumstances surrounding his re-arrest have sparked public outrage among supporters and human rights advocates.

Sowore is expected to be arraigned on Monday, October 27, on a new charge linked to his recent comments alleging that President Bola Tinubu is a criminal. His re-arrest has drawn sharp criticism from civil rights groups, who describe it as another attempt to stifle dissent and silence government critics in Nigeria.
