Northern governors and traditional rulers have convened an emergency security meeting in Kaduna as violence and instability continue to escalate across the region.
The session, currently taking place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, is being hosted by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. The meeting brings together the Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Leaders Council for high-level deliberations.
The gathering is chaired by the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, while the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, is leading the traditional institution’s delegation.
Discussions at the closed-door meeting are focused on the worsening security situation in Northern Nigeria, including rising incidents of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and farmer-herder conflicts. These challenges have resulted in significant loss of lives, widespread displacement, and disruption of livelihoods across several states.
The leaders are expected to develop coordinated strategies and renew commitments toward restoring peace and stability in the region.
