Tinubu: Buhari Taught Nigerians Public Office Is a Trust, Not a Windfall

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said former President Muhammadu Buhari instilled in Nigerians the understanding that public office is a sacred trust and not an opportunity for personal enrichment.

President Tinubu stated this while reflecting on Buhari’s years in office, noting that the former president’s leadership style was defined by discipline, personal integrity, and a strong sense of duty to the nation. According to him, Buhari consistently demonstrated that leadership should be anchored on service, accountability, and sacrifice.

Tinubu said Buhari’s example helped reinforce the principle that those entrusted with public responsibilities must act in the interest of the people, manage public resources prudently, and resist the temptation to see governance as a windfall.

He added that Buhari’s legacy would continue to shape Nigeria’s democratic culture by reminding current and future leaders that public service demands honesty, restraint, and commitment to national development, rather than personal gain.
