Arla Plans Major Shift to Local Milk Production in Nigeria

Danish dairy company Arla Foods plans to source 50 percent of its milk locally in Nigeria within the next 10 years, as part of efforts to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen the local dairy sector.
The company announced the target at the Arla-Dano Farm Open Day in Damau, Kaduna State, highlighting investments in modern dairy infrastructure, farmer training, and animal welfare. A major milestone is the launch of a yoghurt facility that runs on 100 percent fresh local milk, proving the viability of locally sourced dairy.
Arla said its strategy focuses on improving milk yields through modern farming practices, cold-chain systems, and capacity building via the Nigerian Dairy Centre of Excellence.
The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s food security goals and could boost local production, create jobs, and conserve foreign exchange over the coming decade. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
