The Nigerian Army has successfully neutralised over 80 terrorists and rescued 34 kidnap victims in a series of coordinated operations across the country, the Army confirmed.
The operations, conducted between December 25 and December 29, spanned multiple states, including Borno, Adamawa, Sokoto, Katsina, Niger, Zamfara, Plateau, Delta, Cross River, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a statement from the Army, the missions also led to the arrest of dozens of criminal suspects and the disruption of terror logistics networks. The operations employed a combination of ground and air actions, targeting insurgent bases, illegal miners, armed robbers, and other criminal elements.
Key highlights include:
Borno State: Air and ground operations dismantled ISWAP and Boko Haram cells.
Niger and Katsina States: Troops repelled coordinated attacks and recovered stolen livestock.
Kebbi State: Sixteen civilians were rescued in Unashi Village following credible intelligence.
Plateau State: One kidnap victim was rescued despite injuries sustained by security personnel during the encounter.
In addition, the operations extended to the FCT and other regions, where the Army arrested illegal miners, oil bunkerers, and suspected sea pirates.
The Army emphasized that the intensified operations are part of a broader nationwide effort to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and organized crime, particularly during the holiday season when security risks tend to increase.
This announcement follows recent U.S.-backed airstrikes that targeted ISIS-linked camps in Sokoto State, highlighting ongoing international cooperation in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining peace across the nation, urging communities to continue supporting security agencies with timely information. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
