Aisha Yesufu to Become Card-Carrying Member of ADC

Prominent Nigerian socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has announced that she will formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), becoming a registered, card-carrying member for the first time. Yesufu emphasized that she has never held a membership card with any political party in the past, making this her first official political affiliation. The announcement was made in a statement aired on ARISE Television and shared on her official social media platforms.

Yesufu’s decision aligns with her long-standing advocacy for political reform and her support for key opposition figures, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, who recently joined the ADC. Her move is seen as a reinforcement of the party’s growing momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In reaction, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) described recent defections to the ADC, including that of Peter Obi, as a politically calculated maneuver rather than a genuine ideological shift.

Peter Obi, addressing his own defection, warned that Nigeria is being “looted into poverty,” signaling a more assertive opposition posture in the coming electoral cycle.
