The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was denied adequate medical care while in custody and claimed that his personal physician was arrested after attempting to provide medical assistance.
In a statement, the party said El-Rufai was taken to the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical attention but was returned to custody despite concerns raised about his health condition.
The ADC further alleged that Professor Bello Abubakar, identified as El-Rufai’s personal doctor, was arrested following the hospital visit and described the development as a violation of the former governor’s rights.
However, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) maintained that it facilitated the medical visit in compliance with a court order and later accused the doctor of making false statements in connection with the incident.
The opposition party condemned the development and called on the Federal Government to uphold the rule of law and protect the constitutional rights of all citizens.
The controversy comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving El-Rufai, with both the ADC and the ICPC presenting differing accounts of the circumstances surrounding the hospital visit and the arrest of the physician.
