The ceremony, which took place at the State House Banquet Hall, was part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, aimed at recognising gallantry, sacrifice, leadership and outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s peace and security.
Lieutenant General Shaibu received a Service and Sacrifice Award in recognition of his leadership and commitment to ongoing military operations across the country. Former COAS, Lieutenant General Buratai, was also honoured with a Legacy Service Award for his reforms and contributions to strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army during his tenure.
The Federal Government further conferred posthumous gallantry awards on fallen officers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, in recognition of exceptional bravery and dedication to duty in the fight against insurgency.
Other officers were recognised for operational excellence, innovation, intelligence, and commitment to national security, underscoring the government’s resolve to honour the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces, both living and deceased.
