The House of Representatives on Tuesday recorded another round of political realignments as lawmakers crossed from one party to another, further reshaping the composition of the Green Chamber ahead of the 2027 general elections. The most notable development was the reported defection of Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that would also see him relinquish his position as leader of the opposition caucus.

In a major blow to the PDP in Oyo State, six lawmakers — Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle and Adigun Adekunle — reportedly dumped the party for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Also joining the APM from the PDP was Auwalu Gwalabe from Bauchi State, adding to the growing list of lawmakers seeking new political platforms ahead of future elections.

The PDP, however, also recorded gains as Shehu Dalhatu of Katsina State defected from the APC to the PDP, alongside Alex Egbona. In addition, Etanabene Benedict of Delta State left the Labour Party (LP) to join the PDP. Elsewhere, Esosa Iyawe of Edo State reportedly moved from the APC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while Gbefwi Gaza of Nasarawa State defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the Labour Party. The latest movements underscore the fluid political landscape within the National Assembly as parties continue to reposition for the 2027 general elections.
