President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, following a high-level Federal Government delegation sent to Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The President also directed the deployment of a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts aimed at securing the safe return of abducted pupils and teachers from schools in the affected communities.
According to the President, the request by the communities for the establishment of a military base in the area is receiving urgent consideration.
He expressed deep sympathy with the affected families, noting that no child should be taken from the safety of a classroom and no parent should be subjected to such anguish.
Tinubu assured that ongoing rescue operations would be intelligence-led, carefully coordinated, and sustained, adding that government would deploy every lawful means, both kinetic and non-kinetic, to ensure the safe return of the victims.
He also extended condolences to the family of the late teacher, Mrs Mary Oyedokun, describing her loss as painful and assuring that her family would not be abandoned.
