The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening internal democracy, institutionalizing party structures, and promoting accountability within its ranks.
The resolutions were adopted during the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and made public in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.
According to the party, all governments elected on the NDC platform will be expected to consult party structures on major programmes, policies, and appointments, with the exception of personal staff appointments. The party emphasized that its supremacy must be respected and that members should align their personal interests with the objectives of the party.
The NDC also directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organizations operating under its umbrella must function under the guidance and control of the party and not independently of its established structures.
As part of efforts to promote discipline and accountability, the party announced plans to establish a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. A committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been inaugurated to develop the framework and implementation guidelines.
The NEC further approved the inauguration of a National Reconciliation Committee tasked with engaging aggrieved members and fostering unity within the party.
Reaffirming its long-term vision, the NDC stated that it is being built as a lasting political institution rather than a personality-driven platform, political movement, or special purpose vehicle.
The party urged members to remain committed to its growth and sustainability while stressing that loyalty to the party and the national interest must take precedence over personal ambitions.
On financial management, the NDC pledged to enforce strict accountability in the use of party resources. It also directed that candidates at all levels must fully disclose campaign funding and contributions to the appropriate party structures, with all funds to be received through designated party campaign accounts.
