Former Senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what she described as persistent disrespect, rejection and unfair treatment by the party’s leadership in Ogun State.

In a resignation letter dated May 31 and addressed to the Ogun APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Obasanjo said her decision followed events surrounding the party’s governorship ticket process, which produced Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) as the consensus candidate.

She alleged that she was neither consulted nor involved in the consensus arrangement despite her commitment to support any candidate that emerged through the process. Obasanjo also claimed that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue where the candidate was unveiled and subjected to intimidation.

According to her, although she accepted the outcome in the interest of party unity and congratulated Adeola on his emergence, promises made during subsequent engagements with her supporters were not fulfilled more than two months later.

Obasanjo said the development reflected a broader pattern of disregard for her contributions to the party, adding that she could no longer remain where she felt unwelcome.

Despite her resignation, she expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Ogun APC leadership and party members who supported her during her time in the party.

Obasanjo returned to active politics earlier this year after joining the APC and contesting for the Ogun State governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
