Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed reports of the successful rescue of 360 persons abducted by terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State, describing the development as a relief for the victims and their families.
In a statement, Atiku said the rescue brings an end to the ordeal suffered by the abductees since they were kidnapped in March, while noting that Nigeria continues to face serious security challenges from terrorism and banditry.
He commended the military and other security agencies involved in the operation, acknowledging their efforts in ensuring the safe return of the victims.
The former presidential candidate expressed confidence in the capacity of the armed forces to defeat insurgency if adequately equipped and supported with strong political leadership.
Atiku said he believes that with the necessary tools and much-needed political leadership, the military can bring an end to the nearly two decades of insurgency in the country.
While celebrating the rescue, he urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of nearly 100 schoolchildren and teachers reportedly abducted in Oriire, Oyo State, and Mussa, Borno State, as well as other Nigerians still being held by terrorists and bandits.
He also called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, stressing the need for greater emphasis on intelligence gathering, technology, and proactive measures to prevent attacks before they occur.
According to Atiku, a security strategy focused on intelligence-driven and preemptive actions is crucial to tackling the persistent threats of terrorism and banditry across the country. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
