
Suspected gunmen have reportedly attacked Mbasa community in Utange Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, killing one person and destroying several houses in a fresh wave of violence in the area.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed the community and unleashed terror on residents before setting multiple homes ablaze. Troops of Sector 1, alongside personnel of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, were deployed to the area following a distress call but arrived after the assailants had fled.
The attack left one resident dead, while several houses and properties were destroyed by fire. Authorities are yet to determine the full extent of the damage as investigations continue.
Security operatives have since intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further attacks and track down those responsible. Residents have also renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities from recurring violence.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Benue State, where attacks on rural communities have continued to claim lives and displace residents.
