A woman identified as the wife of a suspected fighter of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State alongside her two-month-old baby.

The woman reportedly turned herself in to troops of the 19 Brigade at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area after escaping from an ISWAP camp in Dogon Chuku while her husband and other fighters were away.

During preliminary debriefing, she said she fled the camp due to worsening humanitarian conditions, including food shortages and the sustained military offensives against insurgent hideouts in the North-East.

Military authorities said the woman and her infant have been placed under medical care and quarantine in line with established procedures. She is also undergoing profiling and debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and rehabilitation processes.

Security officials noted that the latest surrender underscores the continued impact of ongoing military operations, which have prompted a growing number of insurgents and their family members to abandon terrorist camps and surrender to government forces. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
