The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned a new housing estate under the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) scheme, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of serving and retired personnel.
The newly inaugurated estate comprises 80 housing units designed to provide affordable and quality accommodation for soldiers. The development also includes essential infrastructure such as a shopping complex, children’s playground, solar-powered street lighting, internal road network, water facilities, and perimeter fencing to create a conducive living environment for beneficiaries.
Speaking at the inauguration, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu described the housing project as a key component of the Nigerian Army’s “Soldier First” initiative, emphasizing that access to decent and affordable housing is vital to enhancing personnel welfare, boosting morale, and ensuring financial security after retirement.
He noted that the successful implementation of the housing scheme would be replicated in other parts of the country to enable more serving and retired soldiers own homes through flexible and affordable payment arrangements.
The Managing Director of Post Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), Major General Isiah Alison (Rtd.), said the project reflects the Army’s commitment to improving the living standards of its personnel. He added that a percentage of the housing units has been reserved for soldiers who sustained disabilities in the line of duty, while the remaining units are being offered to eligible personnel at subsidized rates.
The Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) is part of the Nigerian Army’s broader welfare programme aimed at providing accessible housing opportunities and enhancing the long-term well-being of its personnel during and after active service. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
