
The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a sweeping victory in the local government elections held on Saturday in Nasarawa and Cross River states, winning all chairmanship positions in both states.
In Nasarawa, the APC was declared the winner in all 13 local government areas. Ayuba Wandai, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Lafia. The APC also won 140 out of the 147 councillorship seats, with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) claiming victory in five wards and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in two wards.
In Cross River, the APC achieved a similar landslide, winning all 18 local government chairmanship positions as well as all 196 councillorship seats. Ekong Bocco, Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), announced the results on Sunday, after which certificates of return were presented to the newly elected officials, which included three women and 15 men.
Congratulating the winners, Honourable Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River, urged the officials to prioritize the needs of their communities, uphold transparency, and fulfill their campaign promises in alignment with the “People First” mantra promoted by Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
