The Department of State Services (DSS) has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to return activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore to the Kuje Correctional Centre, citing his inability to meet the conditions required for the restoration of his bail.
The request was made during proceedings in Sowore’s ongoing trial over allegations bordering on cybercrime and criminal defamation.
The DSS opposed applications seeking to set aside the bench warrant issued against Sowore as well as the revocation of his earlier bail.
Sowore’s bail was previously revoked after he failed to appear in court for a scheduled hearing, prompting the court to issue a warrant for his arrest and order his remand pending further proceedings.
During the hearing, the defence sought his release while challenging the court’s decision to revoke the bail, arguing that the order should be reviewed.
However, the prosecution maintained that Sowore had not fulfilled the necessary conditions for bail restoration and urged the court to uphold its earlier decision.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter for further consideration of the pending applications, while Sowore remains in custody pending the outcome of the proceedings.
