President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on his victory in the recently concluded Ondo State gubernatorial election. Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured a decisive win with 366,781 votes, defeating Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the maturity and civility demonstrated by all candidates during the campaigns and election, attributing the smooth process to their commitment to democratic principles.

“The President urges candidates dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to explore the opportunities provided by the judicial system to seek redress on areas of conflict,” Onanuga stated.

Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), commending the electoral body for its efficiency in organizing the election, including the prompt deployment of staff and materials and the rapid uploading of over 98 percent of results on the day of the election.

The President also lauded the police and other security agencies for their role in ensuring a peaceful and orderly process.

Describing the Ondo State election as a “litmus test” for INEC, Tinubu affirmed that the electoral commission had justified the trust of the electorate through its transparent and efficient management of the polls.

Tinubu’s commendation highlights the significance of the election as a marker of progress in Nigeria’s democratic journey and underscores his call for unity and the upholding of legal processes to resolve disputes.
