President Tinubu Celebrates Frank Aig-Imoukhuede at 90

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Frank Abiodun Aig-Imoukhuede, OON, on the occasion of his 90th birthday, lauding him as a national treasure whose lifelong contributions have enriched Nigeria’s cultural and literary heritage.

Born on January 8, 1935, in Edunabon, Osun State, Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede’s career has been a tapestry of excellence in journalism, literature, and public service. Recognized as the first Nigerian university graduate to join the Daily Express, his groundbreaking storytelling set a high standard for journalistic excellence.

“Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede’s life exemplifies how dedication, creativity, and service to one’s nation can transform narratives and uplift lives,” President Tinubu remarked.

As Nigeria’s first Cultural Officer and later Director of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede played a pivotal role in organizing FESTAC ‘77, a landmark cultural festival that celebrated African and diasporic heritage, earning its place as one of the most iconic events in Africa’s history.

President Tinubu also commended Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede’s literary achievements, particularly his works Pidgin Stew and Sufferhead, which have resonated across generations. These writings capture the essence of the Nigerian experience, bridging cultural divides and fostering a deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s heritage.

“Through your work, you have elevated Nigeria’s cultural identity and instilled a sense of pride at home and abroad. Your legacy serves as an enduring inspiration for younger generations,” the President added.

In his message, President Tinubu called on Nigerians to draw inspiration from Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede’s life of innovation and patriotism.

“As you celebrate this remarkable milestone, I join your family, friends, and admirers across the nation in honoring your profound impact on Nigeria’s cultural and intellectual heritage. May your days ahead be filled with health, joy, and fulfillment,” President Tinubu said.
