The House of Representatives has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s proposal to increase the 2025 national budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion. The approval marks a significant step in the administration’s plan to address economic challenges and fund critical national projects.

The revised budget, which reflects a N4.5 trillion increase, is expected to accommodate additional spending on infrastructure, social welfare programs, security, and economic revitalization efforts. Lawmakers expressed their support for the adjustment, citing the need for increased government intervention in key sectors to drive national development.

According to government sources, the proposed increase aligns with projected revenue growth and economic reforms aimed at stabilizing the nation’s finances. However, some analysts have raised concerns about the potential impact on Nigeria’s debt profile and inflation rates.

The House urged the executive to ensure efficient fund utilization and transparency in budget implementation to maximize the intended benefits for Nigerians. The proposal will now undergo further legislative scrutiny before final approval and implementation.
