On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the Royal Family of Warri Kingdom gathered to uphold a cherished tradition that has been observed for over 500 years. The Princes and Princesses of the Warri Royal Family performed the traditional “waking up” ceremony for their father, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri.

The event, deeply rooted in Itsekiri culture, began with the Royal Family paying homage to the Olu of Warri. This ceremonial act not only marked their respect but also reinforced the enduring legacy of the Itsekiri Monarchs. A central highlight of the occasion was the offering of prayers from the Throne, a symbolic gesture connecting the present monarch with the lineage of their forebears.
