Since assuming office, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated unwavering resolve to restore peace and ensure national security through a combination of bold reforms, strategic investments, institutional overhauls, and grassroots engagement. His administration’s policies reflect a clear understanding that peace is not merely the absence of violence but the presence of justice, order, development, and trust in governance.

One of President Tinubu’s key security policies is the establishment of the State Expansion Multi Agency Anti Kidnap Fusion Cell which strengthens coordination between federal and state security actors. This multi agency unit is targeted at dismantling kidnapping networks and improving response to criminal threats, particularly in regions like the North West and North Central. By integrating the efforts of the military, police, DSS, and other operatives under a unified structure, the President is addressing one of Nigeria’s most persistent challenges in security coordination.

To strengthen national security, the Tinubu administration has also restructured the leadership of the Armed Forces, ensuring that only experienced and competent officers occupy critical positions. This move is aimed at improving battlefield tactics, reviving troop morale, and eliminating internal sabotage. Under this renewed leadership, military operations like Operation Hadin Kai, Whirl Punch, and Safe Haven have recorded notable successes in clearing terrorist enclaves in Borno, Kaduna, and Zamfara states.

In addition, President Tinubu has shown a firm commitment to community based security and intelligence gathering. His administration is supporting the integration of vigilante groups and local intelligence units into mainstream security architecture, especially in rural Northern communities. This strategy is helping to close the gap between remote settlements and federal law enforcement agencies while fostering public participation in the protection of lives and property.

Recognizing that peace cannot thrive in poverty, President Tinubu is also tackling the economic roots of insecurity. Through programs like the Renewed Hope Job Creation Scheme, rural electrification initiatives, and agricultural modernization efforts, the administration is creating livelihoods for young people who might otherwise be lured into criminality. Empowerment programs in the North are being fast tracked to rebuild trust in government and reduce social tensions.

Moreover, the President has prioritized inter religious and inter ethnic dialogue as a tool for peacebuilding. He has consistently engaged with traditional rulers, clerics, and cultural leaders to promote tolerance and national unity. These efforts are crucial in defusing ethnic tensions and preventing the escalation of local conflicts into national crises.

President Tinubu is also enhancing border security and immigration control, particularly in the North East and North West. He has approved the deployment of advanced surveillance drones, border monitoring technology, and joint task force operations with neighboring countries to cut off arms smuggling and cross border terrorist activities.

Importantly, the resettlement of internally displaced persons and the rehabilitation of repentant insurgents remain central to the administration’s peace agenda. Through programs such as Operation Safe Corridor and targeted housing projects in Borno and Yobe, the government is rebuilding broken communities and offering hope to those displaced by violence.

In summary, President Tinubu’s security and peace policies are both proactive and inclusive. They address the immediate threats of violence while laying the foundation for long term stability through governance reform, economic empowerment, and social cohesion. Though challenges persist, the direction of the administration is clear. Nigeria must be a secure and peaceful nation where every citizen can live and thrive without fear.
