Suspected Boko Haram members have attacked Mafa Ward in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing nearly all the villagers and setting fire to houses and shops. A resident, speaking anonymously to Leadership over the phone, reported that the heavily armed terrorists arrived on motorcycles, slaughtering many innocent people and burning down schools, shops, and homes.
Another survivor, Mallam Buba Adamu, described the horrific scene, stating that Boko Haram killed numerous villagers, including children, youth, and the elderly. He couldn’t confirm the exact number of casualties but said the entire village was reduced to ashes by the terrorists, who used rifles and RPGs. “No one is left in the village now. Almost 80% of the villagers were killed, including children. What kind of injustice and inhumanity is this?” he lamented.
The village head, Lawan Mai Bano, also spoke to Leadership, confirming that the attack had been anticipated since last week when Boko Haram had threatened the village. He revealed that the terrorists killed many people, burned over 1,000 houses and shops, looted food supplies, and set the entire village ablaze. Many residents fled into the bush for safety, and some remain missing or were abducted by the attackers.
Yobe State Police spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack, stating that it was reported to the Tarmuwa DPO by a resident. He said the attackers struck around 4 p.m. on Sunday, but the exact number of casualties is still unknown. He assured that police and military personnel have been deployed to the village to restore peace and gather more information on the attack.
