The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, has commended President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of a new 80-bed specialist hospital dedicated to maternal and child healthcare in Ugbuwangue, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. The facility, constructed by the Federal Government through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was formally handed over to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, during its inauguration on Tuesday.
Describing the hospital as a transformative project, the monarch said it would significantly improve health outcomes for mothers and children in the community. “Without health, there is no wealth. Wealth is meaningless without health,” he noted, while urging residents to protect the facility and ensure unhindered access at all times. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also praised the project, saying it aligns with his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda and represents “a beacon of hope” toward achieving health-related SDGs. He assured that the state would integrate the hospital into its healthcare system and ensure its effective management.
Other speakers at the event, including Warri South Local Government Chairman Isaac Agbateyiniro and SSA to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, highlighted the hospital’s role in reducing maternal and child mortality. The Acting Medical Director of FMC Asaba, Dr. Ekeneam Omo, described the facility as proof of the government’s commitment to universal health coverage, listing its advanced wards, intensive care unit, theatre, laboratory, and alternative power system as major assets. He pledged dignified and quality care for all patients, while appealing for additional land and equipment to further expand diagnostic services.
