Nigeria is set to train 2,000 youths in electric vehicle (EV) maintenance and manufacturing under a new initiative by the Youth in Parliament Forum (YIPF) in partnership with CAWIN Mobility Limited. The programme, which kicks off on September 20, will provide free training for 1,000 engineering students and 1,000 mechanics across the country.

The training will cover EV diagnostics, battery technology, repair techniques, and broader manufacturing skills, equipping young Nigerians with the competence to participate in the growing global shift to green transportation. According to YIPF Director General Tony Nwulu, the programme is a landmark initiative to build local capacity ahead of the expected rise in EV adoption, noting that one of the future challenges will be ensuring qualified technicians are available to service these vehicles.

As part of the broader partnership, YIPF and CAWIN also unveiled the Lawmakers Car Acquisition Scheme (LCAS), which will give federal lawmakers access to both electric and conventional vehicles through flexible payment plans and after-sales support. The initiative is seen as a step towards creating a sustainable automotive ecosystem in Nigeria.
