The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has described himself as a victim in the controversy surrounding the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Kalu, while speaking on the matter, narrated how he met with Adeniyi Adeyemi, who presented himself as the Director-General of the purported council.
The Deputy Speaker explained that his interaction with Adeyemi was based on the belief that the organisation was legitimate, adding that he had no knowledge of any alleged fraudulent activities linked to the group.
“I am a victim,” Kalu said, while distancing himself from any wrongdoing associated with the controversy.
The development follows ongoing investigations into the activities of the alleged PFIPC, which the Federal Government has said was not established by any law, executive order or presidential approval.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the activities of the alleged organisation and identify individuals involved.
The ICPC probe is expected to examine allegations surrounding impersonation, forged documents, claims of government backing and other activities linked to the purported council.
